In our latest industry tour, we had the pleasure of visiting Emerald Canning Partners, a cannabis beverage production company, where we met with Matt McAlpine, a key team member. This company is quickly becoming a dominant player in Michigan’s cannabis beverage market, and our visit gave us a first-hand look at their impressive operations. Here’s a recap of our conversation with Matt and a deeper dive into what makes Emerald Canning Partners stand out in this booming industry.

A Joint Venture with Big Aspirations
Emerald Canning Partners was formed through a joint venture between Blake’s Hard Cider Co. and Pleasantrees, two well-known players in Michigan’s cannabis industry. This partnership has enabled the creation of a purpose-built, 20,000-square-foot cannabis beverage facility, specifically designed to cater to the state’s growing demand for infused beverages.
“We secured another 10,000 square feet last week,” Matt mentioned, showcasing the company’s rapid expansion plans. With more space, Emerald Canning is positioning itself to produce more products and scale up even faster. As of now, they’re responsible for producing most of the cannabis beverages in Michigan—a market that’s only set to expand in the coming years.
An Impressive Range of Products

One of the most exciting takeaways from our visit was learning about the sheer variety of products coming out of this facility. According to Matt, Emerald Canning Partners currently produces 25 different SKUs, up from 11 just a few months ago. But the growth doesn’t stop there. By this time next year, they plan to have around 105 different products on the market.
This kind of rapid product expansion is no small feat and speaks to both the quality of their operation and the increasing consumer interest in cannabis beverages. If you haven’t had the chance to try any of their drinks, you’re in for a treat. We sampled a few while we were there, and the taste and effect were top-notch.
Overcoming Challenges and Expanding Reach
However, Matt was candid about one of their biggest challenges: getting consumers to try the beverages. Cannabis drinks appeal to a different audience than traditional cannabis products like joints or edibles.
“People who gravitate towards drinks are not normally the same people who are rolling a joint or eating a bag of gummies,” Matt explained.

This challenge requires creative marketing and distribution strategies to reach new consumers, especially those who might be curious but haven’t yet tried a cannabis-infused drink. Once people get the product in their hands, it’s often a hit, but that initial introduction is key.
A Bright Future for Emerald Canning Partners

Wrapping up our visit, it was clear that Emerald Canning Partners is poised for big things. Their ambition is evident, not only in their growing facility but also in their plans for wider distribution. Matt hinted that it’s
“only a matter of time until Emerald Canning products can be found at every gas station in the country.”
That kind of goal illustrates the broader potential of cannabis beverages—an emerging market that could soon rival traditional forms of cannabis consumption.
With companies like Emerald Canning leading the charge, consumers may start seeing cannabis drinks in more mainstream outlets sooner than expected. With the push for rescheduling cannabis on the federal level we may see a day when Cannabis Beverages outperform traditional alcoholic beverages.
